Edward Kennedy Duke Ellington was a significant composer , pianist and great deal leader during the beat of the Harlem renaissance. Ellington wrote over 1,000 compositions in his period as a musician. Ellington was broadly known for his Jazz music but also did blues, gospel, film, scores, start out and classical. Ellington was born on April 29, 1899 in Washington D.C to parents James Ellington and Daisy Ellington. At an early age of 7 years old Ellington began to befool piano lessons from Marieta Clinkscales. In 1914 Ellington wrote his first composition as a young 15 year old working in the Poodle Dog Cafe.
