Use the Adblock Plus add-on if you are use Firefox as your Web browser. Download the add-on from Adblockplus.org (See Resources). Once downloaded, start up Firefox and click the Tools option at the top of your Firefox toolbar. Select Add-ons, make out the Adblock Plus option and click the Options button. Click Add pick up and copy and paste http://*.googlesyndication.com/ into the deform box. This will filter out wholly Google-based ads. If you want to filter more ads, hold more filters to enter from the list that automatically pops up at the end of the install.

Enable your pop-up blocker to block the ads from websites that pop up on your screen automatically when you go to some websites. In Firefox, go to Tools, then Content and check the Block Pop-Up Windows box.
