On the tours, we were told fascinating things, from people who really knew what they were talk about! For example, the Collosuem was built in hardly under 8 years, by thousands of slaves! There is a lot of walking involved, so its outlay investing in some decent shoes that are worn in! If Italian food isnt your thing, there was an Irish bar by the Piazza Venezia, if you fancy some Stew! I super recommend that you invest in an I heart Roma t-shirt...they are worth the 10 euros! The Trevi Fountain was breathtaking, no picture or celluloid can capture the fountains full glory, you have to see this beautiful fountain first-hand. If money is an issue, dont let it put you off, look close to - dont eat in the main tourist spots - go up side streets. On the back streets, there are take-away Pizza places, where you pay by the weight, this is worth the money. It is just a few euro for awesome pizza slices.
